Striding out in Sydney – we’re walking for wellness
Aah, a sea breeze, sun and stories shared! There is nothing better than a stroll along the waterfront with friends.
On recent outings to Bronte Beach and Kirribilli, members of Charingfield’s walking group have been striding out along the beach and harbour waterfronts, reaping all the wonderful benefits of walking. The group gather afterwards for afternoon tea and hearty conversation.
“Staying fit is important to me”, says Albert, who never misses a walk. “There is nothing quite like feeling the sun on my face, breathing in fresh air and looking at new sceneries – it lifts my spirits and reminds me there is still so much beauty to enjoy.”
At Charingfield we recognise the multiple benefits that exercise can bring to a resident’s physical and emotional wellbeing and our team plan and promote regular exercise as well as activities that include or encourage movement. The walkers head out every week and are often joined by family members who enjoy spending the time outdoors with their loved ones.
“It’s all about retaining mobility and building strength to enhance and enrich our residents’ lives, while fostering vitality and well-being,” says Laxmi.
Physiotherapist, Earll, says walking is one of the cherished activities among residents, offering a sense of independence and normalcy. “The walks, whether through the community or on organised outings, support physical health and nurture emotional and social wellbeing. Breathing fresh air, observing seasonal changes, and staying connected with the world around them fosters a powerful sense of belonging and engagement in community life,” he says.
